2011 Race Season
Hello Racers and Fans,
The 2011 race season is just around the corner. I know I’m really excited and I’m sure the rest of you are to. But before we talk about whats in store for the 2011 season I’m gonna talk a little about the 2010 season.
First, I want to thank everyone who helps before,during, and after the races, without these hard working people the race would never happen. So a big THANK YOU goes to them.
The 2010 season was our best yet. From the record # of entries, the huge crowds and to some of the closest races, it was awesome to say the least. The average # of racer entries between all classes and all the races was 191!! If you were at the races you could tell by how full the campground was that the races just keep getting bigger. When you look at the finish results the racing keeps getting more competative, the average margin of victory between all 3 races was just 14 seconds. Ask Rich Fortune, Gary Rothermal, or Eric Miller all 2nd O/A finishers and they could tell you at least 20 diffrent times during the race when they could of made up 15 seconds. These are just a few reasons why I cant wait for this season so lets get to it.
For 2011 we have made a changes in the rule book( bumper rule), we changed some of the names of the ATV classes, and we will be adding a class that will race with the ATV’s and MC’s in the morning.
One of the hottest topics in the off season was the bumper rule. We have finalized our new bumper rule with height regulation which all 4×4 and buggy racers will have to meet. I will show you both so you can see what we changed.
OLD Rule Bumpers are mandatory front and rear. Minimum width will be whatever necessary to connect the frame rails. Bumper or pushing devise can NOT have any sharp edges or points. No part of the vehicle may extend beyond the bumper (front and rear), pushing devise or bodyline. (Pushing devise is defined as any flat area or piece that is safe to bump against and not cause damage to any other vehicle.)
REVISED Rule Bumpers are mandatory front and rear. Minimum width will be whatever necessary to connect the frame rails. The maximum height from the bottom of the bumper to the ground must not exceed 30 inches. Front and rear bumpers must also be at least flush with the tires (front and rear).
As you can see its not a big change but it does elimanate alot of the gray area. This rule will be enforced at all the races this season. If you have any questions regarding this change or would like more clarification contact me thru the LM4W.org website or Facebook and I’ll be glad to help.
The ATV classes have gotten a little name change. Heres the old and new names.
OLD class names NEW class names 4S Stock 4 Stroke 4M Modified 2 Stroke 3M and 3S 3 Wheeler 4X4 (no change) MC (no change)
Now some cool news which will bring even more racers and fans to the track. We will be adding the Side X Side (UTV) class to the morning race. Thats right get your RAZR’S, Rhino’s, Rangers, and Can AM’s ready for the races. As of now SxS’s will start on the last row behind all of the ATV’s and MC’s. At this time the SXS’s will only run 1 lap, while the ATV’S and MC’s will run 2. I’m sure you will want more but at this time we want to see what kind of turn out we will get and to see just how fast you can go around the track. We dont want to start the 4X4’s and Buggy’s classes any later than we dow now. We will be working on rules and regulations for this new class and will hopefully have that to you ASAP. Here is a list of some of the rules we have now.
The following equipment is required for all machines:
a. Four point harness restraints, securely fastened on both occupants at all times;
b. Full roll cages;
c. Side-nets;
d. Doors;
e. Fire Extinguisher clearly mounted and easily retrievable by officials/the public; and
The following gear is required for all competitors:
a. Helmets;
b. Protective eyewear
c. Pants and long sleeve shirt
As you can see we’ve kept pretty busy in the offseason so we can continue giving you the best races we can. With the races continually getting bigger and busier for those who run the races more help at the races will be needed. If you would like to help in any way let us know. Also check out our facebook page. We are going to start a few discussions on possibly restructuring some of the 4X4 classes, and we would like all the input we can get. C-ya at the races.
